Our Purrr-fect Cats

By: Garrett Barton, Jerome Belcher, and Lauryn Meyer

Hello and welcome to the first edition of our blog: For those who enjoy the pleasures a four-legged furry friend can provide, this week's topic is for you! This week's episode will feature an “about me” blurb about each of our cats. Collectively, there are 12 cats that can appear in this Blog, living their best lives in their 3 separate homes. We have four indoor-only cats: Loki, Oasis, Harley, and Quinn. Six outdoor/indoor cats: Peanut, Luna, Milo, Willow, Jaq Jaq, and Bessie. And two outdoor only cats: Baby/Muffin and Mama. To start things off, we’ll hear from Lauryn and what she has to say about her cuddly kitties.

Peanut was found around 2018 in the barn on the land I now live on. When she was just a kitten, my brother found her and brought her home just for me. All of my siblings have had one of their own cats, and now she is all mine. When she was found, she was small, hungry, and only had one eye open. At first, we thought she would grow up to be one-eyed, but lots of cleaning and care remedied the eye, and she now has both eyes working just fine.

Peanut is the mom of Milo, Luna, and Willow. This is her second litter, and her first time having two tortie-shell girl cats! They all play outside during the day and snuggle up together inside at night. While outside, they love to hunt small animals, make friends with the barn badgers, socialize with (or maybe terrorize) other local cats, and occasionally take down an unsuspecting bird. Milo is an orange tabby and was born first; he has grown into a big sturdy boy, he is very loving and will give you a head bump any time you’re near his face. Willow was born next and she is a very sassy and opinionated tortoiseshell fur ball but will cuddle with you for hours. She can be separated from her sister by the orange stripe across her face. Luna was the runt of the litter, and her coat is mainly black compared to her sister’s with more of her coloring on her underside. She is very loveable yet awkward to human touch and will lie by you but more towards your feet.

Next we’ll hear from Garrett about his precious pets. Mama cat first showed up on our doorstep in November 2020. We were so excited to see her that we decided to go out to give her some water and try to pet her. She was so cuddly and literally would not stay off us (me and my sister). Eventually we were told to come back inside and before we knew it, Mama was gone. The next day, to our surprise, we saw Mama where we met her the day before. After that she kinda just stayed around our house, and eventually we started to call her our cat.

Fast forward a few months, now March 2021. We noticed that Mama started to look a bit bigger. Our concern led us to the vet where we found out that she was pregnant. She gave birth overnight and when we found her in the morning we were so excited to see three baby kittens. Funny enough, the kittens in front of us were colored white with gray spots, mostly black, and striped gray. In order to keep track of them, we decided to cleverly name them, White Baby, Black Baby, and Grey Baby. As a family, all four cats had so much fun. They would play outside, chase each other around, and climb into any bush that was small enough for them. Unfortunately, after a year of the four of them being together, it was decided that we would give two of the kittens away to trusted friends and family. After a very long time we finally decided to keep White Baby, who we now just call Baby or Muffin, and Mama. Despite the fact that their family got separated, they are both as lively as ever and still love to play and cuddle.

Last but not least, let's hear what Jerome has to say about his fluffy family. Jaq Jaq was found inside my house in 2019. We aren’t sure exactly how she got in the house! She was malnourished. We got her neutered and fed. She came in from the outside so we let her go outside when she wanted to but she doesn't mind when she's not allowed out for awhile. My older brother found Bessie in a park in late 2019; he had fleas and ticks all over him and was very skinny. He hid in my brother's car and he brought him to my house. We fed him and took him to the vet and he is now an inside and outside cat for us. He gets upset and acts like a monster when he's not allowed outside. Loki was given to my mom when he was a baby in 2013. He is a siamese cat, and he is very shy to everyone except a few. He wasn't always shy though which is strange, because you can barely approach him now. When he does let you pet him, he is a very nice cat. We’ve had Oasis for I don't even know how long. She is like a shy old lady; she is even more shy than Loki but the second you have treats, she will get talkative and change her whole personality. Harley and Quinn came from my sister's cat that had babies. They're both only a couple months old and are still really little. Harley is orange like his dad and Quinn is black like her mom but has orange spots on her. Quinn also takes after her mom with her actions; she meows a lot and shares some of the same mannerisms. She is very smart for her age. I can’t say the same for Harley. He is a very dumb but sweet cat. He loves to snuggle at night and likes to hide under blankets. He is also very curious about everything which gets him in trouble. He's always trying to get into things like the sink, microwave, and the toilet.

That just about covers everything we have to say about our furry friends, aside from lengthy stories that would be too long for this blog. If you enjoyed your time here and would like to see what other interesting things we have to ramble about, please feel free to subscribe to our blog.

Currently we are planning weekly releases on topics we deem worthy of sharing with you. We hope you had a good read, and we are excited to see you all next week when we discuss the HO HO HO Holidays!
